As part of our cybersecurity strategy, local administrative rights will be removed from Academy-owned faculty and staff computers. Removing local administrative rights is one of the most effective security techniques and it will enhance our cybersecurity posture by helping to stop malware and thwart attackers.  Without administrative access, malware and cyber attacks can not get a foothold on an Academy device and, therefore, they can not launch an attack.  In the end, this keeps Mass Maritime's data and systems better protected.

What this means for you

  • Your computer will not be a launching pad for malicious software and attacks.
  • No changes will need to be made to any existing software on your computer.
  • You will be able to install Academy approved software using MMA's Self-Service app.
  • If you need software installed that is not included within MMA's Self-Service app, you can request "Admin On-Demand" within it.

How to Request Admin Permissions

Open the "Launchpad" from your macOS Dock or search on the top right of your taskbar for Self-Service

Once inside the "Self-Service" app, please select the "Admin On-Demand" tab on the left side. You can then request admin permissions for 5 minute intervals.
